Cooperative Core Values Statement Date: 10/17/2013 Latest: 10/17/2013 Status: Draft 1
This statement describes the core values of the cooperative and its membership. As it’s an early draft, let’s not focus too much on the language and try to state the philosophy and I’ll edit it nicely before we put it out publicly.
Our Core Values
- We believe that all software platforms, user interface toolkits, applications, development tools, apps and content management systems, should be fully accessible and should generate output 100% compatible with the latest standards and guidelines for accessibility in their ecosystems.
- We believe that there should be open-source libraries and tools to help developers make their software accessible.
- We will open-source any generally useful libraries or tools that we produce whenever we can do so.
- We believe that, regarding technological accessibility for people with disabilities, that nothing should be done on our behalf without participation of people with these disabilities.
- We believe in cooperative governance and that our members should own their own labor.
Hm, mentoring probably needs to go in there somewhere. Next to the open source section.
We believe in spreading the knowledge to build Stuff That Works to as many developers as possible, because this ultimately is in ours and everyone’s interests.
